The EMAPP project runs in Hounslow, supporting and empowering families of adults (over 18 years) with a learning disability from a BME community to understand and to use services.



EMAPP:


  • Supports and empowers Hounslow families of adults (over 18 years) with a learning disability from a BME community to understand and to use services

  • Provides information, advice and general advocacy to families through regular carer groups, consultation forums and Information days

  • Represents carers’ issues at major forums including the Learning Disability Partnership Board and the Carers Partnership Boards and to have a voice in developing services

  • Provides individual advocacy to support carers through complex and drawn out issues

  • Completes carers assessments on an annual basis.


Other Specifics

  • There is no waiting list

  • 30 % of carers are single mothers

  • The project works closely with the Older Carers Project since over 50 % carers are over 60 years

  • The project has been running in the two Boroughs for ten years and has a committed staff team.
