The EMAPP project runs in Hounslow, supporting and empowering families of adults (over 18 years) with a learning disability from a BME community to understand and to use services.
EMAPP:
- Supports and empowers Hounslow families of adults (over 18 years) with a learning disability from a BME community to understand and to use services
- Provides information, advice and general advocacy to families through regular carer groups, consultation forums and Information days
- Represents carers’ issues at major forums including the Learning Disability Partnership Board and the Carers Partnership Boards and to have a voice in developing services
- Provides individual advocacy to support carers through complex and drawn out issues
- Completes carers assessments on an annual basis.
Other Specifics
- There is no waiting list
- 30 % of carers are single mothers
- The project works closely with the Older Carers Project since over 50 % carers are over 60 years
- The project has been running in the two Boroughs for ten years and has a committed staff team.
