The Asian Advocacy Project has been running since 2003 with original funding from Big Lottery under the Southall Healthy Living umbrella managed by Ealing PCT.

With the continued successful of the service and continued need for carers we continue to be funded by the PCT now under Choosing Health Programme. The project is part of a health umbrella of projects which work in a holistic way to meet local community needs.

We also carry out joint outreach with the ability to engage with hard to reach communities and tackle often taboo subjects. The project has developed excellent links and is able to use local languages e.g. Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi & Gujarati skills to work with the diverse population.

The project is a grassroots service which provides advocacy which can be 1:1 work; home visits, group work at coffee mornings, representation for carers at care plan meetings; reviews meetings with Social services or day centres: accessing benefits; transition of cared for to independent living as well as raising an often difficult issue within the Asian Community: assisting them to claim benefits; appeals: helping cared for living in independent accommodation; adaptations in their homes through OT assessments: moving from secondary schooling to college and training: assist and facilitate carers with health action plans for their adults with learning disabilities
