Advocacy Support for Parents with Learning Disabilities
Ealing Mencap can offer advocacy support for your most vulnerable clients who would benefit from an experienced learning disability facilitator to explain what is happening during the emotional experience of child protection action or the judicial process.
Our advocate can offer support to parents to prepare for and attend meetings, these can be meetings with their solicitors or other professionals, Looked After Children (LAC) meetings or any other meeting where the advocate could offer the parent a better chance to understand and participate. Once in Court parents need clear explanations and easy to understand information about the process and the roles of the different professionals involved, our advocate can supply this.
Our experience indicates that judicial professionals are appreciative of local authorities who properly support parents with learning difficulties when they have instigated court action.
The inclusive cost of this service is £30.00 per hour. The areas that we can cover at the moment are in North-West London and South Bucks, but we will be rolling this service out across London.
We would expect our service to be purchased by Social Services Childrens’ and Adults’departments and solicitors.
