'Work Foundations' Employment Project – Are you looking for employment or training opportunities?
Posted by Maurice on November 07 2008 - 10:57:24

The ‘Work Foundations' Project offers a unique opportunity for Ealing Mencap to work with individuals with learning disabilities/difficulties to improve their work skills and move towards paid employment. Paid employment brings greater independence and self worth and helps people to take control of their lives. ‘Work Foundations' makes this possible by supporting people in a wide range of jobs that meet their individual needs and choices.

Ealing Mencap work closely with employers, explaining the benefits of employing people with a learning disability and helping them to fully include people with a learning disability into their workforces.

The ‘Work Foundations' Employment Project is divided into two main parts:

1. The Personal Development Programme (PDP)

• The PDP is a pre-vocational training course
• Designed to increase the individuals skills in finding and maintaining paid employment
• Delivery of the PDP can take place in small groups or on a 1:1 basis
• Content Includes: Induction, Personal Profile, Confidence Building, Communication, Occupation Decision Making, Disability Awareness, Producing a CV, Work Attitude and Behaviour, Job Finding Behaviour (Including interview preparation and practice), Personal Safety and Health and Safety

2. Work Placement Module (WPM)

• The WPM is a period of work experience
• The purpose of the WPM is to introduce/re-introduce individuals to the workplace and to gain invaluable skills required for long term employment
• The WPM ensures each individual is able to put into practice the skills learned and developed during the PDP
• The WPM takes place with an employer of the clients choosing
• Clients will receive support and monitoring from their employment advisor whilst on the WPM

If the individual has not been successful in gaining paid employment after the ‘Work Foundations' employment project, support will continue until their targets and goals are reached. Job coaching is available whilst on the course and also once paid employment has been gained.
