Ealing Mencap 2018 Campaign!

For us, this year’s Learning Disability Week (18th to 24th June 2018) was all about raising awareness and engaging with the local community in Ealing.

We wanted to reach out to people, to let them know about our charity, the work we do to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities and help them understand why this is so important.

Thanks to Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre/British Land loaning us a shop for the week, we ran a ‘pop-up’ information and drop-in which meant we had a great presence and met a lot of people.

Each day had a different theme, but Thursday and Friday were a real highlight with some of the people we support running a ‘human fruit machine’ game show.

Our customers loved this, and one said ‘I want to go back next week and do the game again!’

The draw has now taken place and the lucky winners announced.

Our #changelives campaign was also launched in the week and this will run for the next year. Our series of home-designed posters are hard hitting and are intended to challenge people’s perceptions of learning disability while encouraging everyone to show their support to help us change lives.

The sad reality is that people with a learning disability are often a forgotten group in our society and they continue to be hugely disadvantaged in almost all areas of ordinary life. We are working hard to change this, and to give people opportunities that will enable them to achieve their potential.

There are so many ways that you can share our passion and help make Ealing a great place for people with learning disabilities to live and flourish.

We just ask, whatever you do, choose to do something.
